After the Charlottesville protests two weekends ago, ESPN executives made a decision to pull Robert E. Lee, a new play-by-play announcer assigned to the Virginia-William & Mary game off opening weekend. Foreseeing the internet explosion that could have potentially happened, they worried his big moment, even on a lightly watched game, might turn into a national joke.
