Notarized Letter Believed to be Written by Dead Man Found in Freezer Uncovered

The body of 69-year-old Paul Edward Mathers was found inside a freezer in their apartment after the death of his wife. Police reported that the frozen body had died sometime between February 2009 and March 2009. Recent developments into the case emerged when a notarized letter from 2008 was found and believed to be written by a deceased Utah man. The letter alleges that his wife did not kill him.

Whether or not the letter is legitimate is still unclear. Detectives are working on verifying Mathers’ signature through handwriting experts. According to NBC, “Investigators previously said they were looking at whether Mathers’ wife, Jeanne Souron-Mathers, 75, wanted to keep collecting her husband’s Social Security and Veteran’s Affairs checks after he had died,” The question remains whether this was planned by the couple before Paul Edward Mathers’ death or if the wife “forged” the letter herself.
