DETROIT, Aug. 18, 2025 ~ In the month of July, 1.8 million U.S. natives traveled by car to Canada while only 1.7 million Canadians returned the favor by driving to the U.S, according to Statistics Canada. This is the first time since before the pandemic that U.S. travelers in Canada outnumbered Canadian travelers in the U.S.

The records have been showing about a 24% drop nationwide,” Jim Blanchard, former governor of Michigan and former ambassador to Canada, told “All Talk with Kevin Dietz.” “It’s all a part of a protest. It doesn’t have as much to do with tariffs as Mr. Trump’s joking about Canada becoming the 51st state.”

A trade deal deadline between the two parties was set for the first of August, but both sides are still struggling to reach an agreement.
