Missouri’s transportation director is urging you to prepare now, ahead of the winter storm that will arrive late Friday night or early Saturday in mid-Missouri.

State Department of Transportation (MoDOT) director Ed Hassinger tells reporters that the snow will cause major issues statewide:

“As we think about this it’s going to impact a majority of the population of the state of Missouri. Fairly significant impacts across the state,” the director says.

Director Hassinger tells reporters that travel won’t likely return to normal until next week, due to snow and subfreezing temperatures behind it. Monday’s high in Columbia will only be 14 degrees. Director Hassinger also says his team will be fully deployed during the winter storm, until roads return to normal conditions:

“I want you all to know that as the precipitation starts to fall, our team is going to be fully deployed across the state. 3,000 folks working two shifts a day until this is back to near normal conditions across the state,” he says.

Director Hassinger was joined by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the National Weather Service (NWS) St. Louis office and by Missouri SEMA at Thursday’s press briefing.
