It's never too early to get in on the college football win-total market, and Geoff Schwartz has two bets he's making right now.
We're about five months out from the 2026 college football season, but there are already a handful of futures wagers we can dive into. You've got Heisman futures, championship odds, and we've got some markets for teams' win totals. I'm always intrigued by the win-total market at this point in the offseason because so much can change between now and August. However, when deciding whether to wager Over or Under a team's win total, you can always look at how the squad fared in the previous season and factor in whatever changes could impact the team moving forward. Here's what I'm on. This page may contain affiliate links to legal sports betting partners. If you sign up or place a wager, FOX Sports may be compensated. Read more about Sports Betting on FOX Sports. Utah Over/Under 8.5 wins I don’t like the Utes this season. There’s so much new in Salt Lake City that it’s going to affect their ability to win games. Utah’s most successful coach in program history is now coaching at Michigan, while his replacement-in-waiting finally gets the opportunity to coach his alma mater. Morgan Scalley played football at Utah from 2001-2004 and has coached for the Utes since 2007. Utah was a reliable football program under Kyle Whittingham. You knew exactly what you’ were getting each season, give or take a season with bad quarterback play or injuries. With a coach in waiting, the theory is that the aforementioned trend will continue. But I always have questions about this theory. Does the new head coach keep the same principles? Does he recruit the same players? What about the staff? It feels difficult to blend all of those together to have success early in your coaching tenure, and it’s even tougher with so much newness in the building. Scalley has new coordinators, including his replacement at defensive coordinator. He’s replacing respected offensive line coach Jim Harding with first-time offensive line coach Jordan Gross. Gross was my teammate in Carolina. He was my mentor, and he’s a brilliant mind, but he's still new to coaching at this level. Scalley does have his quarterback coming back but has to replace his entire offensive line, which includes two first-round offensive tackles. The receiver position has been a wart on the roster for years, so Utah went into the portal to improve there. A handful of the best defensive players either transferred to Michigan or are heading to the NFL. There’s far more unknown in this program than ever before. The schedule is likely to give the Utes three wins in the first three games, unless Arkansas is far better than we expect. So does Utah go 6-3 in conference play to get over the threshold of 8.5 wins? The Utes will host BYU, which beat them last season. They also go to TCU, Arizona and Iowa State. I think Utah will eventually be fine with the program changes, but it won't be this season. PICK: Utah Under 8.5 wins Maryland Over/Under 4.5 wins Maryland won its first four games last season before losing eight straight games to end the year. The Terps started a true freshman quarterback in Malik Washington and he played like a true freshman — some excellent, some bad and some bonehead. But that’s normal for a player getting an opportunity at that age. All of those reps are going to pay off this season. Washington will play behind a veteran offensive line with four returning starters. Jalil Farooq returns after 58 catches and four touchdowns. The Terrapins added some other pieces in the portal to help the offense. Maryland couldn’t stop the run last season, which the Terps will absolutely need to improve in 2026. They added defensive linemen in the portal for that. They do return a pass rush that is nationally underrated. They had two freshmen All-American pass rushers in Sidney Stewart and Zahir Mathis. The defense returns its leading tackler in linebacker Daniel Wingate. The schedule is always important when figuring out a win total. Maryland doesn’t have many games that you circle as wins, but the Terps do have plenty of 50-50 games. Connecticut, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Rutgers, Purdue and Wisconsin. You can probably give them losses at Ohio State and USC. They can beat Illinois, and we won’t know about Penn State for a bit, but that game is at home. I like Maryland to go Over. PICK: Maryland Over 4.5 wins

Indiana's national champion football coach Curt Cignetti will lead the field on the pace laps prior to the 2026 Indianapolis 500.
The honorary pace car driver for the Indianapolis 500 is used to being in the lead. Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti, who guided the Hoosiers to an undefeated season in winning the 2025 College Football Playoff national championship, will lead the field on the pace laps prior to the biggest race in all of motorsports on May 24 (10 a.m. ET, FOX). "His Hoosiers have been nothing short of remarkable, and their national championship run inspired our entire state," INDYCAR and IMS President Doug Boles said in a news release. "He’s the perfect choice to drive the Chevrolet pace car, and I know his introduction on race day will bring out a special roar of appreciation from our crowd." Indiana has won 27 games in the two years that Cignetti has been coach since coming over from James Madison University. He has been honored with several national coach of the year awards the past two seasons. The pace car for the 2026 Indianapolis 500 is a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X.

Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham made one thing clear: Bryce Underwood is clearly the Wolverines' 2026 starting quarterback.
New Michigan Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham eliminated any doubt over who his 2026 starting quarterback will be. "Bryce [Underwood] is our clear number one," Whittingham asserted at a press conference on Monday, according to On3. "He’s QB1, without a doubt. He has performed very well in the workouts, and not only with his athleticism but leadership-wise. He was voted one of our team captains [for the spring and summer], and he’s a guy that everyone looks to. "The top 10 percent of your football team is critical, because if they’re hard workers and doing things right, everyone else seems to follow along. They set the pace — and Bryce has done a nice job of setting the pace." Whittingham added that he felt Underwood "handled" his 2025 freshman season "fairly well." Last season, which was Underwood's freshman campaign, he totaled 2,428 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 126.6 passer rating, while completing 60.3% of his passes. He also rushed for 392 yards and six touchdowns. In all, Underwood, the consensus No. 1 quarterback recruit in the Class of 2025, had trials and tribulations, perhaps highlighted by a game-winning drive against Northwestern at Wrigley Field as time expired in Week 12 — which saw him throw for a season-high 280 yards — but lowlighted by throwing for just 63 yards in a 27-9 loss at home to Ohio State in Week 14, which all but ended Michigan's College Football Playoff aspirations. With that said, Underwood started all 13 games for the Wolverines, who went 9-4 overall and 7-2 in Big Ten play, good for fifth in the conference. Elsewhere in Michigan's quarterback room, Whittingham said that four-star recruit and freshman Tommy Carr is "probably the one [quarterback] that stands out so far." Underwood, Carr and the Wolverines' intrasquad Spring Game is on April 18.

The Power Four conference believes the rules “cannot be credibly or equitably enforced," and has asked the NCAA for a pause in investigations and infractions.
The Big Ten says it wants the NCAA to stop its investigations related to athlete tampering because the Power Four conference believes the rules "cannot be credibly or equitably enforced." The Big Ten sent a letter to the NCAA this week that called for a pause in tampering investigations and infractions proceedings, according to ESPN, which reported late Wednesday that it had obtained the letter. In it, the conference pledged its support for "a modern framework for contact rules that addresses the varied challenges and opportunities of the current collegiate landscape." "The Big Ten is committed to quickly engaging in a deliberative process drawing on athletics administrators, compliance professionals, coaches, legal counsel, and other stakeholders from across the membership and will work to produce a comprehensive proposal," the letter reads. "We believe this collaborative, membership-driven approach is the best path to a durable solution and need the NCAA’s support in this effort." The Big Ten letter was sent after the NCAA football oversight committee recommended emergency legislation to protect the transfer portal window by issuing penalties for schools and coaches who circumvent the rules. Proposed last month, the legislation would become effective immediately if approved at the Division I cabinet meeting in April. It also comes after Clemson coach Dabo Swinney accused Mississippi coach Pete Golding of tampering with transfer player Luke Ferrelli. Swinney said in January that he had forwarded evidence to the NCAA. The Big Ten letter points out that the current tampering rules were implemented before a 2025 antitrust settlement cleared the way for schools to pay players through licensing deals. They also were drafted long before today's era of almost unlimited movement via the transfer portal. "These rules were not designed for a world in which student-athletes are compensated market participants making annual decisions with significant economic consequences," the letter reads. "The collision between the old rules and new reality is producing outcomes that harm the population that the rules were designed to protect." Reporting by The Associated Press
